Career and Skill Development Programs project

Overview

Career and Skill Development Programs are all about empowering people to reach their full potential. Nippon Nepal Trading & Consultants (NNTC) recognizes that strong communities are built not only through physical infrastructure, but also by investing in people, providing them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in their careers and everyday lives. Through targeted training and capacity-building initiatives, NNTC supports employability, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance, helping individuals become drivers of positive change within their communities. A core focus of NNTC's work is Personal Initiative (PI) and Career Development and Entrepreneurship (CDE) training. Personal Initiative (PI) training was developed by Prof. Michael Frese, Prof. Michael Gielnik, and their team at Leuphana University of Luneburg, Germany, and is based on action regulation theory (Frese & Zapf, 1994). This theory emphasizes that effective action depends on clear goals, relevant information, structured planning, and continuous feedback. PI training is especially designed for entrepreneurs in developing and emerging economies, where entrepreneurship plays a key role in economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. Its effectiveness is well recognized, with adoption by international institutions such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the European Investment Bank. The training methodology is highly participatory and practice-oriented, combining short lectures with hands-on exercises, group discussions, and peer-to-peer feedback to ensure immediate application of learning. NNTC implements a train-the-trainer (TTT) approach, enabling local trainers, after completing certification under a master trainer, to independently deliver PI training to entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners. In parallel, Career Development and Entrepreneurship (CDE) training supports students from Japanese language schools, vocational institutes, and universities by helping them design clear, confident career pathways while strengthening entrepreneurial thinking and business development skills.

Our Focus

NNTC is actively delivering Personal Initiative (PI) and Career Development and Entrepreneurship (CDE) training programs across Nepal for youth, students, and emerging entrepreneurs. Ongoing activities include training-of-trainers programs, entrepreneurship and business development workshops, career planning and life skills training for students, and capacity-building initiatives for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs. These programs are implemented in collaboration with educational institutions, training centers, local governments, and development partners to ensure relevance, local ownership, and long-term impact, contributing to sustainable livelihoods and community empowerment in Nepal.
